Picnic Dinner

Last week I was stressing that summer was almost over. There had been two whole weeks of real summer like temps. That's a long time for Sweden, so I knew it was all about to end. Chris texted me at work and suggested we meet at the train station when I finished for the day. He would prepare a picnic and we would train up to Helsingborg and sit by the sea. Chris asked me if I minded for him to bring someone.....it was Charlie! So on the train we went and headed up north for a picnic by the sea. For two months in the summer we have transportation passes that let us travel all through the Southern Sweden district of Skåne. Those end on August 15, so it was another good reason for the trip, plus Charlie loves riding on the train. The heat here has been hard on him. Since we don't have AC in the house (nobody has AC in their house), he can't get a good break from the warmer temps. The train is perfect for travel with him, since it does have AC.

The Helsingborg central station is right on the water. It is a really beautiful old town. There are a lot of cafés, bars and restaurants along the sea walk. It was a very busy night, lots of people were out to catch the last bit of heat of the year.

Chris had grilled duck breast and marinated mushrooms; he had packed both a cheese and bread plate and a hummus plate. It was a delicious feast!

We sat by the water in a large, open, grassy field. There was a dance troop, a bridal shower, a fitness class, and a lot of other picnickers.

I could eat dinner like that every night!
