Hunter Valley

Toby and Christine had taken a trip to wine country earlier in the year with friends Andres and Esther when their family had come to visit. Andres and Esther are from Spain. They had such a good time, they asked us if wanted to go on our visit, and of course we said yes!

Christine had booked a really nice cottage for us to stay in. There was a nice kitchen/dinning/living room area, and 3 bedrooms each with their own bathroom. We drove up with Toby and Christine Friday morning, and Andres and Esther drove up that evening. I think Christine did a better job with pictures than I did, and you can see her bolg here, but there are a few I thought I'd share.

Peterson's was the second winery we visited on the first day. The guy who helped us there was very witty and well educated. He did guess that I was in my early 30's after all. He was clever and we laughed a lot.

Another good visit was at Tatler. The guy there was washing down tastes of wine with beer. He seemed to really enjoy his job.

The group consensus was that the men did a way better job at the tastings than the women. Of course it also made us think that I needed to go there and be the exception!

After a quick trip to the store, Chris made homemade pasta sauce for dinner that was awesome. We all enjoyed a fun night of hanging out and eating great food.

This was oue view from the cottage. It overlooked both grapevines and olive groves. It was pretty amazing.

The next day we all loaded up in our mini van and headed out for more tastings. The lady at the car rental had been super concerned that Christine had rented such a big car and she even called it "The Beast." Us Americans thought it was pretty funny that the lady was concerned it was too big. It was just a plain old mini van to us.

The weather was absolutely perfect. It was in the high 80's and sunny. We were in the foothills and the scenery was gorgeous. It was so reminiscent of Tennessee that I got a little homesick.

Esther took a ton of pictures. She was always telling us, "Now, with attitude!"

Here was a sneaky picture she took while Chris and I were happy to be in wine country and enjoying the weather.

At the end of the day we watched the sunset while looking for kangaroos. And we found them! There were so many of them. The whole afternoon was one that will not soon be forgotten. We were happy to make new friends and even happier to be having such a great time with our old friends.
